I have been reading your stuff for a co...Hi Bob!

I have been reading your stuff for a couple of weeks now, and have finally (obviously) gotten up the energy to respond. First off, let me say thank you for all the entertainment. Second, for the look into the life of an Austin cabbie. I am currently driving a cab in Las Vegas for Yellow and am moving to Austin in a month. As a back up plan, I will try to pick up some shifts driving, but I'd like to do something else if possible. If I could find a job as a PA for a film production for instance, i'd jump at that.
I love your writing and some of your ideas to interact with your passengers in an entertaining way. I too am challenged with the where are you from/how long/why? conversation. My favorite way to derail that line of questioning is to ask them what their favorite tv show is. This always leads to excited and interesting dialogue as people love to talk about their shows. Since it's tv, the chances are there is a new episode to talk about so that the conversation is ever changing.
In 2011 the star of my favorite tv show Firefly, started a frenzy on Facebook when it looked like there was some hope of the show returning to the air after 9 years. It didn't happen, but it reminded me that many people out there still haven't heard of the show so I started trying to find ways to bring it up in conversation. I met many fans of the show and introduced many new people to one of my favorite things. I also came to the realization after hesitating to explain a sci-fi show to an older couple that fans of the original Star Trek are in their 60s and 70s! Took me a sec to wrap my head around grandparents being sci-fi fans.
I apologize for the extremely random way this comment is shaking out, but just wanted you to know that your efforts are appreciated. I hope to see something new from you soon.

Impatiently,
Roger Kea (Keaphoto@gmail.com)

AnotherCoatOfBrownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14662803453276097054noreply@blogger.com
